Transforming the school environment

Making a confident and bold statement with new external signs

We started work with Prospect School by looking at their existing entrance signs and gave them a completely new look and feel. We applied the confident new image to large-scale illuminated architectural lettering on the outside of the Hall.

The school is now more prominent both day and night. The signage has changed the first impressions for visitors and added a sense of pride for both staff and pupils.

A smart and warm reception

We also addressed a really ugly area above the school’s main entrance. It presented problems as the wall was far from flat. To overcome this, and to provide future flexibility, we created a smart floating aluminium frame which large vinyl graphics can now be stretched across.

We also added frosted vinyl manifestation to an internal glass wall which separates reception from a student thoroughfare – making it less ‘like a goldfish’ bowl and nicely branded.

We gave the reception desk a makeover with vinyl graphics, designed glass honours boards then added produced a welcome mat and flags to enhance the welcome.

A kick of colour and visual continuity

As the school was formed from the merger of two comprehensives, there was a a lack of unity across the site. We renamed the blocks A to F (some were already known by letters and others by names) and created bright, colour-coded, metal letters which now mark the locations while providing colour and visual continuity.

Enhancing the academic environment

We created a range of graphic walls, door panels and windows to brighten corridors and inspire learning.

Reinvigorating the house system

We worked with staff to relaunch the house system, that they had renamed after compass directions. We produced a set of linked identities and rolled them out across certificates, ‘Hogwarts-style’ internal hanging banners, oak honours boards, external feather banners and enamel pin badges.

Hair and Beauty: Salon G

This was a really exciting project. A series of rooms, previously used for Audio Visual teaching, had been converted into Hair and Beauty rooms. The walls were bare and needed funking up. We named the space Salon G (it’s in G Block), designed an identity and created large format graphics. We applied cut-out vinyls and graphic wallpaper, gave the reception desk a front and supplied matching appointment cards to give the pupil’s the feel of a real salon.

It’s been great to see students enjoying this dynamic learning environment.

Inspiring future directions

The school had several fingerpost signs that needed repair. We designed and fitted new fingers – each pointing to two (double-sided) post-Prospect School destinations. Geography and careers in harmony.
