Rachel Warner BA Hons AFHEA

Rachel has over 10 years experience working as a designer within the charity, corporate and Higher Education sectors. Her passions flow through the worlds of the creative and the organised – she loves nothing more than a good looking list!

Organised and solution driven
By using her foundations in information design to communicate effectively, Rachel thrives when organising projects and facilitating teams to move forward. Her experience as a Senior Designer at Thomson Reuters and the University of Reading allowed her to develop strengths in using her visual skills to communicate processes with colleagues, facilitating teams to make decisions and move projects forward.

Creative juices
One of her favourite activities is allowing her creative juices to flow on personal projects spanning illustration to quilt making. Always looking for inspiration whether that be botanicals used in Shakespeare’s writing to the latest trends in home decor. Her studio is scattered with experimental work, and Rachel can often be found experimenting with materials to produce unusual results. As a freelancer she loves working with small businesses and charities, working closely with clients to produce clear and structure briefs and then create materials fit for purpose.

Passing on the baton
Rachel is a recognised Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy through her teaching and mentoring at the Design & Print Studio at the University of Reading and the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication, working with students and new staff to enable them to grow as professionals. Her particular interest is in how professional practice is considered a continued learning journey, and how young professionals learn to develop their skills on a daily basis.
Research and beyond
Rachel has turned her focus towards her research as she embarks on life as a PhD student at the University of Reading. Alongside her research she continues her passion for passing on the baton through teaching and mentoring, and her own journey as a freelance designer and creative. back to team profiles
